The Brief

A site for travel inspiration, Trippee is a new way of channeling your want of a new adventure into a more definitive plan. You may have the need to see somewhere new, but have no idea where to start and even where you might like to end up. It required a fun, travel-related look, and a new way of approaching site design for holidays. Let’s say you have excitement for adventure, that travel buzz, how do you begin to use it?

The Solution

When discussing the project and its aims, we realised that speaking to someone about a holiday was always far easier than deciding plans yourself on your own especially when you didn’t know your destination. That dialogue, the back and forth of asking and answering questions, became the inspiration for how the site would work. Trippee asked a list of questions which would narrow down options for a traveller. Would they like to take the kids? Would they want a quiet time, or something to get the blood pumping? Drinks by the pool, or a helicopter flight around a volcano? With each answer, Trippee eliminates the irrelevant and focuses on the options that would be more in line with the user’s desires. Answers could be a little vague if that helps the user, and if more than one ideal destination becomes clear then the site would offer a number of results. The results can be shared, and if sent to a travel partner, perhaps their result would be different due to how they responded with their own needs.

A mammoth database of destinations, weather types (including annual rainfall amounts), budgets, safety levels, hours of sun, and even flight durations was created to support the answers generated by the site. Each destination has a paragraph of information and every single location offered a wealth of knowledge on which to base potential travel plans.

The branding was born from of the use of the phrase ‘Travel buzz’ and so the little airport signage-like bee was born. Looking right at home in an airport (and, of course, a frequent flyer itself) the bee became the symbol for looking where to zoom off to next.
